Biographie
Gaia Cogrossi obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology in 2020 from the University of Milan (Italy), within the Pharmaceutical Biotechnologies curriculum, with a thesis focused on viral neutralization assays. She then pursued a Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Biotechnologies at the same institution.
During her Master’s training, she worked on SARS-CoV-2 biology and antiviral strategies, first at the Parasitology, Virology and Immunology Laboratory of the University of Milan, and subsequently at the Institute for Research in Infectious Diseases of Montpellier (IRIM) within the Molecular Determinants of Virulence (MDV) team, where she joined as an Erasmus student. Her work focused on the study of antiviral compounds targeting different human coronaviruses.
After obtaining her Master’s degree, she rejoined the MDV team at IRIM as a research engineer and later as a PhD student. Her current research focuses on the mechanisms of action of a novel host-targeting antiviral against SARS-CoV-2, the role of salivary proteins in modulating viral infectivity, and the characterization at the single-cell level of a human upper respiratory tract infection model to better understand respiratory virus transmission.
