When viral infections rewire neural circuits: towards cognitive virology

In their Opinion paper published in Trends in Neurosciences (IF = 15.1), Jules Bouget, Emma Partiot and Raphaël Gaudin introduce a new concept termed “cognitive virology”, which arises from clinical observations showing that a broad range of viruses can impair human cognition. By integrating neurobiology, virology and immunology within a unified framework, they describe how viral infections and the host response disrupt cognitive processes, notably through alterations in neuronal synaptic homeostasis.
