Review in Trends in Molecular Medicine about the possibility to target tight junctions to fight against viral neuroinvasion

The team “Membrane Dynamics & Viruses” headed by Raphaël Gaudin, in the context of an international collaboration, publishes a review in Trends in Molecular Medicine (IF=11.95) about the possibility to target tight junctions to fight against viral neuroinvasion.

The article shed light on the diverse antiviral strategies that could be developed to permeabilize, or oppositely, strengthen the impermeability of the blood brain barrier. This approach is daring and necessitate to be finely tuned, but more and more studies suggest that such strategies are possible, while remaining safe. Here, we propose to lock the brain entry gate of certain neurotropic viruses to decrease the direct or indirect neurological impact they induce.
