Nathalie Chazal is a member of the Faculty of Medicine (University of Montpellier). She teaches Virology. In addition, Nathalie Chazal co-founded the Erasmus Mundus Master EDAMUS and created the national training CNRS Entreprises “pathogens and BSL3 “. More recently, Nathalie Chazal has developed an International University Diploma (DUI: Emerging Infections: One Health approach take off #1 MUSE), an International Master (Infectious Diseases and One Health, take off #2 MUSE).

In parallel to her teaching activity, Pr. Nathalie Chazal carries out her research activity at IRIM in the team led by Dr. JM. Mesnard and Dr. B. Beaumelle. Her research work is part of the theme dedicated to the study of the role of the HIV-1 antisense protein ASP. She is particularly interested in the links between ASP and autophagy, ASP and viral replication as well as in the structural and evolutionary aspects of ASP. She is currently co-directing the thesis of Abla Houmey and supervising a student of the Master 2 Biology-Health, Lise Holsteyn.

In addition to her research and teaching activities, Pr. Nathalie Chazal has several administrative responsibilities: Representative of the Infectiology axis within the MUSE Biology-Health Cluster, member of the MicrobiOccitanie committee, member of the management board of the Faculty of Medicine, member of the Innovation and Scientific Coordination Committee of IRIM, member of the scientific committee “Research in Society” Maison des Sciences de l’Homme SUD, scientific referent for “Montpellier Advanced Knowledge Institute of Transitions, MAKIT”.
