Maïka performed her PhD at IBGC-CNRS (Bordeaux, FRANCE) under the supervision of Dr. Nadine Camougrand. She investigated the signals inducing mitophagy in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. After her PhD, she joined as a postdoctoral fellow, the laboratory of Dr Suzanne Pfeffer at Stanford University (Beckman Center, California, USA). She studied the mechanisms mediating cholesterol export from the lysosomes. Back to France, she worked at the Pasteur Institute (CIIL, Lille). She combined her knowledge in biochemistry and cellular biology to determine the molecular mechanisms involved in the hijacking of the host Golgi apparatus by the intracellular parasite Toxoplasma gondii. In 2018, she joined Raphael Gaudin’s team to study the dynamic of entry of hepatitis B and C virus using different microscopy technics. She obtained her permanent position (CRCN) at CNRS in 2022. At IRIM and as a MDV team member, she is now investigating new unconventional secretory pathways that transport proteins to the plasma membrane. She is also deciphering the host secretory pathways diverted by viruses to favor their proliferation. Her favorite virus used as a model is Hepatitis B Virus.
Since 2022, she is part of the editorial board of the international peer-reviewed journal “Biology of the Cell”.
