Barbara (Basia) has obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry at Cardiff University (UK) with a one year industrial placement at AstraZeneca (Mölndal, Sweden), where she worked on optimizing protein expression techniques in various cell lines. She completed her PhD studies in the lab of Imre Berger at the University of Bristol (UK), working on generating a minimal synthetic baculoviral genome to improve genome stability and protein expression yields. Basia joined the MDV team to work on numerous lesser known arboviruses, such as Tahyna virus, which has been shown to impact the electrical signal of post-mortem human brain explants. She continues her work on Tahyna by investigating the consequences of infection in cerebral organoids through proteomic studies. She additionally works on the role of LPHN3 in the infection of SARS-CoV-2.
