After completing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering in Chennai, India, Amrithya was working as a software engineer where he developed an interest in machine learning. He went on to pursue a Master’s degree in Machine Learning and Data Mining at Université Jean Monnet in Saint-Étienne, followed by an Erasmus+ semester at the University of Freiburg, Germany. During his studies, Amrithya worked on projects at the intersection of machine learning, bioinformatics, and computational biology.
For his Master’s thesis at IBDM in Marseille and the QARMA team, Amrithya worked on LLM inspired architectures for the classification of cell types and cancer stages using bulk and single-cell RNA-seq data. He also worked on explainability methods, identifying key genes driving these predictions. In May 2026, Amrithya joined LIRMM and IRIM in Montpellier under Dr. Ganesh Gowrishankar and Raphaël Gaudin’s team as a Research Engineer.
His current work involves developing bioinformatics pipelines for studying molecular changes associated with neurotropic viral infections, and applying machine learning approaches to electrophysiological recordings and microscopy images. His research interests include machine learning, computational biology and xAI. Outside of research, he enjoys going to the cinema and following a wide range of sports.
